This was a good read with twists & turns & lots of action. Could be a great movie of the "Shining Through" genre.
Well writ, fascinating tale of life in wartime Denmark. Characters are well developed and likely reflect the mores of the time. This author also spends time to develop the setting as well as the characters, a detail often neglected by many authors.
Very well written. Could not put the book down.
This is a well written book about the little discussed occupation of Denmark by Germany. It is also a good examination of the coming of age during wartime. It will be liked by readers who enjoy knowing the thinking of young people in these difficult situations. The true story about the escape of the small population of Jews from Denmark is almost a side story and could be the basis of another book by this author.
As a fan of WWII fiction, this novel interested me because of its setting in Denmark. A bit too much of a love story for me; I would've preferred more historical detail and development of additional characters. Which is very positive, because the story & what was happening in it, is so interesting -- especially because it's based on real events. I just want more.
That said, this is a first novel, and bravo to Mark Kennard for writing it! So please do read it.
This is a good, but not great, historical novel. It is an easy read and kept me up late reading on two nights. The storyline of occupied Denmark was solid and captivating, but somewhat predictable. I enjoyed it and am glad I found it.
Unfortunately, like many e-books it could use a good edit. The possessive form of it is its, not it's. Also, airplanes are parked in hangars, not hangers. The author got these right from time to time, but not always. Two global search and replaces can fix the book in moments.
This book will grab your attention from the beginning and maintain it throughout. The scene is German occupied Denmark during WWII. A British flyer is shot down and encounters a woman he knew before the beginning of the war. He returns to England, but not before he participated in a resistance action to seek a radar piece from a German night fighter base. He is recruited for an intelligence organization and returns to Denmark where he reconnects with the Danish woman. The only criticism that can be made, was that the assigned mission wasn't fully developed. A sequal in the future?
